Songs From the Shows 2009 – Movies Were Movies.

Following the success of the last “Songs From The Shows”, the same production team are delighted to be responsible for next years production.

The show will be subtitled “Movies Were Movies” and will contain songs from well known films as well as musicals that have made it to the big screen.

The initial idea was to go for more official movie soundtracks, however this proved to be not quite as straight forward as you would imagine.  Many of the world famous songs associated with the Hollywood Blockbusters feature huge orchestration – this is something that would be impossible to create with the band we use for “Songs”.

Still keen on the movie theme, we looked at it from another angle and introduced musicals that have originated on the stage and subsequently made into films and vice versa.  That gave the option to include songs from popular current West End shows like “Phantom, Evita, Hairspray, Mamma Mia” etc as well as the classics “Carousel, Brigadoon, South Pacific”.

Every song featured has appeared in a movie or musical film either as the main theme or as incidental/background music.

Ironically, the only song not to feature in a film is the title song, ” Movies Were Movies” which comes from the stage show “Mack & Mabel”.

On the whole, there is a good mix and hopefully something for everyone.  We were keen to include more harmony singing for this show as that is something the society has always, quite rightly, received favourable comments about.  There are some very well known songs and some you may be unfamiliar with, including an a’capella version of “Eye Of The Tiger” which may raise an eyebrow or two!

The full list of songs can be found below and we really hope as many of you as possible will put your names down to be a part of what promises to be another successful “Songs From the Shows”.

Thanks

Richard, Andrew, Kathryn and David.
