TCOS: saving nature from the Garden Bridge concrete carbuncle

TCOS supporters took action this morning and adorned trees to be destroyed for the Garden Bridge with posters inviting people to hug them! We raised awareness of the famous boulevard of sparkly blue-lit trees that will disappear if the Garden Bridge is built.
The boulevard is alongside the large grassy area which is leased to developers Coin Street Community Builders (CSCB) who rent it out for pop-up style events that earn them around £5000 per day. To compensate for the lost revenue if the Garden Bridge is built, CSCB have insisted that a large commercial building is constructed on our open space, and that all the rent will go into CSCB’s coffers – but there are no plans to build the remaining 200 social housing units that CSCB promised for the community almost 30 years ago (however they have struck a deal for 355 luxury private apartments to be built within a 43 story building on Doon Street SE1).
This land - intended for people who don’t have a garden - is supposed to be freely accessible to the public, 24/7, 365 days a year and it is strictly forbidden within the lease for the land to be developed upon. Therefore if CSCB change the terms of the lease to allow the trees to be chopped down for the Garden Bridge – we will challenge them in court.
