Yet another ominous setback for the troubled Garden Bridge

A group of Lambeth councillors have called in the controversial decision made by ONE cabinet member in Lambeth Council, to allow the variation of the lease held by Coin Street Community Builders, to allow construction of the Garden Bridge.
Cllr Jack Hopkins, Lambeth's Cabinet Member for Jobs and Growth single-handedly made the decision behind closed doors on Maundy Thursday (March 24th) just before the Easter break. Some might say that this was strategic timing by Lambeth to "bury bad news" as many people go away during the Easter holidays - but we wouldn't be so cynical...
However it is clear that such an important decision cannot be entrusted to a man who does not live within the vicintiy of the proposed site and has refused to engage with the community on this sensitive matter.
Lambeth leader Lib Peck consistently maintained that the decision would be taken at a Full Cabinet meeting but she misled the public and found a loophole to seemingly take matters out of her hands. With such weak leadership, it is no wonder that Lambeth is up to its neck in controversy.
