Coin Street: poacher turned gamekeeper? Join us on Thursday 16th June to find out more.
13 Jun 2016
Join Thames Central Open Spaces outside Coin Street Neighbourhood Centre 108 Stamford Street, Waterloo SE1 9NH on Thursday 16th June from 6pm -7.15pm to protest at CSCB's claims of acting on behalf of 'elected representatives' in facilitating the development of Garden Bridge when it should be acting in the best interests of the community it is supposed to serve.
Coin Street Community Builders (CSCB) is ironically hosting an event: ‘Designing Community Buildings’ on Thursday 16th June to question the role of the community centre and its place in society today: http://coinstreet.org/events/designing-community-buildings/
CSCB have strayed from what was once their own "philosophy of believing communities need a designated space to come together and be at once contained and supported." Now they are in negotiations with Lambeth Council to arrange a sublease of our open public space for the private Garden Bridge south landing building.
The land on the Queen’s Walk is a public right of way that was intended for community use 24/7, 365 days a year in perpetuity; 32 trees and a large grassy area would be destroyed on the South Bank for the Garden Bridge. CSCB does not have to allow this to happen.
Please spread the word about joining us – attend the event yourself to question CSCB (and its delegates) about their stand on the Garden Bridge; tell them how it has come about undemocratically and without the consent of the local community. We can still stop the Garden Bridge by standing our ground - just as CSCB ironically did over 30 years ago when it was fighting corporate development. Let’s remind them how it’s done!
CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE GARDEN BRIDGE
We are dedicated to saving public space on the South Bank and over the River Thames. The controversial Garden Bridge is not needed here, it would destroy protected views and is democratically and environmentally damaging. Help us stop this now.
